Our client is a highly respected architectural, interior design, and planning firm located in the Midwest, which has completed over 3,500 projects since its founding in 1899.  Recognized as a leader in the industry and in particular for its expertise in the educational markets, the firm has developed numerous planning and design innovations throughout its history and has recently differentiated itself through its proprietary planning software branded as “Solutions” and through its successful use of LEED design.  As a result of a concentrated three year marketing effort, the firm has not only expanded its reach throughout the Midwest, earned significant repeat business and valuable referrals, but also stands poised to take its marketing to a new level for the future.   With an active and on-going public relations campaign, they have already achieved extensive media coverage and received numerous distinguished industry awards solidifying its reputation as a market leader.   The firm is committed to providing client leadership by offering innovative problem solving, signature designs, and a branded client experience. 

Primary Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for developing new business leads through target marketing and relentless phone and in-person meetings and presentations in both regional and sometimes national market. Once opportunities have been identified and nurtured, the candidate will work in collaborative with a key professional of the firm to further develop the relationship and close the business.  The candidate will work closely with the President and CEO of the firm and be part of a team approach, closely supported by the Marketing Coordinator, the staff architects, and often current and previous firm clients. Success will be measured by the number of client conversions these leads have generated and the dollar volumes associated.

Key Requirements and Behavioral Characteristics:

  • Proven success in business-to-business sales with large capital spend and need for consultative approach.  Strong in follow up and relationship development.
  • Known as a persistent and consistent prospector for business, able to get to decision makers at an executive level, skilled at uncovering the budgets/obstacles, and able to close.
  • Willing to work as the “hunter” and “qualifier” in collaboration with key internal colleagues who will “close” and “farm” the transactions. 
  • Experienced in making “one shot” impactful presentations to senior decision maker.  Proven communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • References as an independent self-starter with excellent telephone skills and the ability to quickly establish rapport and credibility with superior interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity, investigative nature, eagerness to learn, and innate confidence. 
  • Passionate, energetic, and goal-oriented; driven to succeed.
  • Demonstrated interest in architecture, planning, and design is preferred, but no industry experience is required.
